uction line. Making things more impressive is the fact that it only took the Huracán three years to reach 8,000 sold units. By comparison, Lamborghini sold a little over 3,000 units of the Gallardo in its first three years, according to sales reports released by Volkswagen AG.
If sales of the Huracán maintain this pace for the next seven years, it could blow the Gallardo’s sales record out of the water with a projected tally of around 26,667 units, almost double the Gallardo’s record of 14,022 units sold. Whether the Huracán gets to that number or not is going to be a matter of discussion that will be talked about in growing frequency the closer the supercar approaches that total. For now, getting to 8,000 sold units is a good reason to celebrate if you’re Lamborghini. The Italian automaker knows it had a hit on its hands when the car was launched in 2014. Good thing then that the Huracán has proven itself to be more than just that for the Raging Bull. It’s sold more than what the company presumably expected and if the superior continues its current pace, it’s going to break 10,000 units sold, possibly as soon as the next 12 months. Once it does, expect the narrative surrounding the Huracán’s pursuit of the Gallardo’s sales record to grow, if it isn’t there now already.

The company’s first new design in almost 20 years coming in September
TVR to unveil its new sports car at Goodwood Revival
June 5, 2017 10:00 by Ciprian Florea
Recently revived, British sports car firm TVR has confirmed that its first vehicle in almost two decades will be unveiled at the 2017 Goodwood Revival in September. Developed under codename T37, in conjunction with Gordon Murray Design, TVR’s first new design since 1999 promises tremendous performance and a pure British design. TVR will become the first manufacturer to globally launch a new vehicle at the Goodwood Revival.
Not a lot is known about the T37 at this point, but TVR said the coupe will tip the scales at only 1,200 kg (2,645 pounds) and hit 60 mph in "less than four seconds." Its top speed is estimated at 200 mph, a mark that very few supercars can reach. The sports car will also get its juice from a custom-made, 5.0-liter V-8 developed by Cosworth. With a power-to-weight ratio of 400 horsepower per tonne, the TVR should come with almost 500 horses on tap.

1965 Ford F-250 Six-Pack – An ICON Reformer Project

Imagine having a vintage crew cab pickup with all the style and flair from a bygone era in design mixed with modern mechanicals and creature comforts, all capped with a outright obsessive level of detail crafted from the finest materials available. That’s exactly what we’re seeing here. This 1965 Ford F-250 Six-Pack is the newest member of ICON’s Reformer series of builds. Its outward appearance looks properly vintage, but its body hides a 5.9-liter Cummins turbodiesel and Dodge 3500 underpinnings.
ICON has made its quite a name for itself over the years building custom vehicles based on vintage iron. The scope ranges from the “Derelict” series that puts modern mechanicals under an almost untouched, original body with its beautiful patina still intact to high-end Bronco and FJ restorations that are far superior to their factory-fresh condition. The California-based independent company will field nearly any customer request, regardless of difficulty, so far as their bank account will allow. That is clearly on display with this 1965 Ford pickup. You’ll definitely want to see the details in our full review.

The Hoonigan Crew Goes Opposite Lock In Crosskarts: Video

The Hoonigan Crew Goes Opposite Lock In Crosskarts: Video
June 4, 2017 23:00 by Jonathan Lopez
The major automakers boast all the time about offering a “pure” driving experience, but even the most hardcore street machines can’t compete with this – say hello to the Crosskart. Essentially a four-wheeled, rear-engine, high-performance speed pod, this is a machine that you wear like a tight pair of jeans. Strap into the single-seat cockpit, plug in the steering wheel, and hit the throttle, and you’ll be enjoying the high-revs of a 750 cc engine motivating the rear axle through a six-speed sequential transmission. Course corrections come courtesy of a quick-ratio steering system and hydraulic handbrake, and with roughly 150 horses on tap to motivate just 680 pounds of curb weight, rest assured it’s got what it takes to tap into your adrenaline reserves. And that’s exactly what the Hoonigan folks got to experience, as documented in this 14-minute video.
The video follows the crew on a field trip to Grange Motor Circuit in Southern California, where Crosskart USA provided a few examples of the aforementioned speed pods. Per usual, the Hoonigans put their feet down and hang the ass end out, displaying some slick tandem drifts on the tight race track. Hearing the engine scream alongside the screeching tire noise is a real treat, while the in-car shots and jaw-dropping drone footage capture what appears to be illegal levels of fun. Sign us up. Jaguar Land Rover's SVO Division Needs To Be Recognized As One Of The Best In The Business

A few days ago, Jaguar released a special edition version of the XE compact sedan. Most of you may have heard or read about it, but its unveiling wasn’t met with the same “break-the-Internet” vibe as similar products released by Ferrari (the Ferrari J50) and Lamborghini (the Lamborghini Centenerio). Part of it isn’t Jaguar’s fault because a car like the XE SV Project 8 doesn’t illicit the same level of awe as the J50 and the Centenerio. But how much of it is related to Jaguar and SVO not getting the respect it feels it deserves?
There’s an element of truth in the rationale that Jaguar is slowly building its name back to relevance after years of toiling in mediocrity. It’s done a remarkable job in recent years, but there’s still some level of hesitancy when it comes to believing that Jaguar has returned to the level of rivals like BMW and Mercedes-Benz. The introduction of SVO, or as it’s really called, Special Vehicles Operations, is meant to bring that Jaguar name closer to the marque. This is where a car like the XE SV Project 8 comes into the picture, and if you haven’t been a fan of SVO’s work in the past, then you will be once you see what this juiced-up XE compact sedan is fully capable of. The full scope of details covering the XE SV Project 8 will be revealed when it makes its debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed at the end of the month.

Alfa Romeo 4C Plus Formula 3000 V-8 Equals Automotive Bliss: Video
An Italian hillclimb special that sounds as good as it looks
Alfa Romeo 4C Plus Formula 3000 V-8 Equals Automotive Bliss: Video
June 4, 2017 12:00 by Jonathan Lopez
Located in the north of Italy and surrounded by a jaw-dropping mountain vista, the municipality of Verzegnis has a lot to offer visitors. But beyond the stunning natural beauty and relaxing ambiance, Verzegnis also plays host to an annual hillclimb event. Officially sanctioned by the FIA, a variety of machinery show up every year to play in the twisting switchbacks and narrow two-lane tarmac, including the above-featured Alfa Romeo 4C. One look at this thing is enough to confirm it means business – just check out that aero, the ultra-wide and low stance, and race-ready rubber in the corners. But the real head-turner is coming out the twin exhaust pipes, where a high-strung Formula 3000 V-8 provides a soaring soundtrack.
According to YouTuber 19Bozzy92, the spec sheet is rather impressive – roughly 450 horsepower is on tap thanks to a 3.0-liter Zytek V-8, which is more than adequate considering the whole thing weighs just 700 kg (1,543 pounds). Throw in all the other competition-spec goodies, like upgraded steering, hardcore suspension, and a stripped interior, and this 4C has a ton of potential. Hit play, crank up your headphones, and bask in the sights and sounds of one of Turin’s finest tuned to 11.

Don’t look now, but there’s a go-faster Subaru WRX STI just over the horizon. Per usual, the Japanese superhero is labeled with a string of letters that promise more speed than the standard model, rocking the moniker Type RA NBR. The Subie faithful will be quick to recognize the name – the last time we saw it was in 2013 with the tS Type RA, a model limited to the Japanese market. Prior to that was the original Type RA from the ‘90s, a tuned-up, hardcore iteration of the GC8 WRX. This latest version is framed as an all-out time attack racer, and you can preview its AWD turbo goodness in the above-featured 2-minute teaser video.
By the look of it, the new Type RA won’t be street legal, but word is it will be coming stateside. Cue fan boy happy dance. Subaru also says it’s gearing up for a run at setting a new record at the Nurburgring for four-door sedans later this year. The automaker has yet to give us an official spec sheet, but more info is expected to drop next week. In the meantime, read on for a little speculation on what this thing is packing.

Next Need for Speed Trailer Released; BMW M5 Face Exposed

Just a couple of weeks ago, we brought you the news about a new installment to the Need for Speed franchise that promised better police chases, an offline mode, and even daytime gameplay. More importantly, we’ll actually be able to pause the game for the first time since its reboot – that in itself is enough to pop champagne bottles and make it rain, right? Well, now we’re getting a look at the first official trailer and, needless to say, there are a few surprises. As promised, it does look like there are daytime gameplay and wicked police chases, but it also looks like it’s leaning a bit toward aFast and Furious-type storyline. The new game is being called “Need for Speed: Payback” and is apparently about building the perfect ride and “playing out an action driving fantasy.”
The game will be released on November 10, 2017, and those who preorder will receive the platinum car pack that includes a 2008 Nissan 350Z, 1967 Chevy Camaro SS, 1969 Dodge Charger R/T, 2016 Ford F-150 Raptor, and a 2016 Volkswagen Golf GTI Clubsport. But, this isn’t the only surprise that comes along with the announcement of the latest NFS game. The trailer gives us a quick but definite glimpse at the upcoming BMW M5. We only get to see the face for just a second, but it’s enough to tease us that much more.

Does A Carbon Fiber Body Limb Sound Like A Good Idea?
Lamborghini seems to think so
Does A Carbon Fiber Body Limb Sound Like A Good Idea?
June 3, 2017 18:00 by Kirby Garlitos
There’s no doubt Lamborghini is a pioneer in the use of carbon fiber technology. In a lot of ways, the Raging Bull can be considered as the godfather of carbon fiber. That status, coupled with the responsibility of venturing into new frontiers, is spurring Lambo to take its knowledge of carbon fiber to other industries. If everything goes as planned, we could one day see carbon fiber become the material of choice among prosthetic implants and subcutaneous devices in the medical industry.
It sounds a little too far out of reach at this point, but we learned a long time ago to never doubt Lamborghini in matters related to carbon fiber. The automaker even opened the Advanced Composite Structures Laboratory in Seattle, Washington last year to spearhead the development of new applications that can be traced back to carbon fiber. This time, it’s partnering with the Houston Methodist Research Institute to create new forms and iterations of carbon fiber that can serve as better materials than the ones being used in the medicinal industry today. Ultimately, the objective is to create prosthetics that are lighter, more durable, and tolerated better by the human body. Whether that goal is reached isn’t known yet, but if there’s one company that can see it to its completion, it’s Lamborghini. Give the company some time to research and develop this possibility and you can be sure that it’s going to yield some results.

Renowned Mustang tuner Saleen hasn’t been doing particularly well in recent years due to financial problems, but it somehow managed to keep most of its nameplates alive and introduce new ones, including a beefed-up Tesla Model S. Now, Saleen is returning to the spotlight with a series of Championship Edition Mustangs that celebrate the Driver, Manufacturer, Team, and Tire SCCA ESCORT Endurance Championships won by the brand’s racing team back in 1987.
Launched in cooperation with General Tire, which was essential to Saleen’s success on the race track in the 1980s, the Championship Edition will break cover by the end of June and will enter production in September 2017. Both road-legal and track-only versions will be built, with the sixth-generation Mustang GT used as a base. Pricing and availability information is still limited, but we’ll be back as soon as we know more.

When the first Duke hit the streets a few decades ago, it was not here to make friends. The bike changed the game and re-wrote the rule books. A bold call to all to head to the straight narrow and embrace the life that lives at the very limit.
In 2011 the Duke family gained a new member, namely the small 125 Duke and was followed by the 690 Duke and the 990 Super Duke R in 2012. We got the first Duke 200 in 2013, and since then there has been no turning back for the Austrian Orange. Releasing the refreshed 390, they had completed the goal of leading the boards of the segment. But, looks like KTM had other things in mind for us.
Now in 2017 came a surprise from KTM when they launched the Duke 250 along with their updated 200 and the new phenomena called the 390 Duke. Although KTM had once rubbished news about the brand planning to get the Duke 250, this launch has been a wild card. Meant only for the South Asian markets, the 250 could make a scene on American roads too and is built in India by Bajaj.

The Popemobile Has A Far More Interesting History Than You Think

One of the perks of being a pope, at least as far as we’re concerned, is that automakers from all over the world trip over themselves in hopes of being given the honor of developing a popemobile for the leader of the Catholic church. Over the years, we’ve seen many different versions of the vehicle, ranging from limousines, sedans, pickups, SUVs, buses, and yes, even sports cars. I’m bringing this up because our current pontiff, Pope Francis, was given an all-electric Opel Ampera-e by the French manufacturer. It’s not technically a popemobile in the traditional sense, but it did provide the idea of doing a brief look at the history of the popemobile, from the portable thrones that we’re used in the 1800s to the eclectic variety of cars that are being used today.
Technically speaking, the term “popemobile” wasn’t coined until the rule of Pope John Paul II in the late 20th century. Before that, it was referred to in a number of different names, the most prominent of which was sedia gestatoria, or Italian for “chair for carrying.” Regardless of the etymology of its name, the long list of vehicles tagged as popemobiles paints an interesting picture on their variety, how they’ve evolved over time, and most importantly, the stories that come with some of them.
